Why Broad Form Defense Coverage?

Why Broad Form Defense Coverage?

  • How prepared are you to cover the legal fees and expenses of a Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) investigation?
  • Are you prepared financially to defend your license to practice medicine if you are investigated by the Florida Department of Health?
  • What about a Medicare and/or Medicaid investigation for fraud and abuse or post-payment audit?
  • Can you personally afford the legal costs after receiving an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) citation?

In recent years, complaints against physicians accounted for over 40% of all complaints filed against licensed healthcare professionals in Florida. Moreover, the professional medical regulatory boards are taking steps to insure that physicians get the message that if they “go bare,” they better do so in accordance with the statute. Any deviation from the law will result in disciplinary action taken against them.

How Much It Costs

The cost for quality legal representation can quickly exceed $50,000 in the event you are required to suffer through the indignity and intrusion of an Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) or Department of Health complaint.

In addition to worrying about whether or when our license will come under attack by a regulatory board, Medicare and Medicaid are aggressively seeking reimbursement of alleged overpayments from physicians with ever increasing fervor. The cost of representing a physician in a post-payment audit can easily exceed $20,000.

A SMALL PRICE TO PAY

FHPLEI is committed to assist its policyholders in protecting their professional licenses. For maximum protection, FHPLEI will provide a legal expense insurance policy with $50,000 per year in legal expense coverage for an annual premium of only $695. Alternatively, you can purchase a smaller $25,000 policy for only $495. Regardless of the coverage amount you select, there is no deductible to meet.
